My original inspiration behind this concentration was from the poverty I saw near me and the devastation most of us are blind to I wanted to explore and portray the things we don't always see, and the neglect men, women, and families experience. The questions that really pushed me were what is the fine line? Does poverty look the same around the world? How are families, not just people, affected by a low income?
I used dark colors of black, white, and dark blues to create a tone of darkness and sadness that is poverty, but I used bright colors to show there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have tried to push outside of my comfort zone with landscapes and experimentation with portraits. By experimenting with different focuses such as objects, people, and even simple barbed wire I have learned I can overlay images and combine all images. Photoshop has really developed my photos into something beyond imaginable. By being able to distort images, change their focus, and overlay images I have been able to take my photos to the next level. Using this to experiment allows me to try new ideas and I am able to complete trial and error. Using images from around the world shows how poverty is incorporated and seen throughout everywhere not just one area. I want to bring attention to the struggles and pain citizens experience, and how we can stand by blind to the reality that is our society.
